New Opportunities for NYC After-School Staff
Two-Day Course: Working with Special Needs Students What: A continuing education course for after-school staff which covers planning and running engaging activities for English language learners and students with low literacy skills When: Two Saturdays, April 12 & April 19, 9 AM to 3 PM Where: The Center for After-School Excellence, 1440 Broadway in Manhattan, 16th Floor Register: Email ddublin@afterschoolexcellence.org or call (646) 943-8848; fee is $20 per person Best Practices in Summer Learning: Putting the Research to Work What: Join youth services practitioners and top research scholars to discuss the impact and effectiveness of programs that promote summer learning. Speakers include the director of the Center for Summer Learning at Johns Hopkins University. There is no fee. When: Tuesday, April 29, 8:30 to 11 AM Where: New York University's Kimmel Center. Register: Visit the Center's Web site Earn a Graduate-Level Professional Certificate at Hunter College This August, The Center will launch a graduate level, non-degree professional certificate program ideal for after-school staff members who have earned their Bachelor's degrees. Earn nine graduate credits at Hunter College School of Education. Course topics will include effective teaching, child development and educational psychology.
