The Center's first Continuing Education course offers a chance for after-school staff members to refresh and advance their knowledge in two days, without making the time commitment of enrolling in a college degree or certificate program.

All courses are taught at Hunter College in Manhattan and were developed with the needs of the after-school workforce in mind, and meet a number of Department of Health training requirements.

Sessions of each class will be repeated on weekends throughout the academic year.

» Introductory Course for After-School Staff

It covers lesson planning, effective communication for classroom management, creative ways to resolve conflicts and tools for identifying kids' learning styles and strategies.
Cost: Free

Each course allows staff members from programs throughout New York City to come together on a college campus. They network with others in their field and share their first-hand experiences. For those who want to improve their teaching techniques and learn from experts in the field how to lead activities that kids will love, these courses covers the bases.

The Center can run this course exclusively for a single organization with a minimum of 15 participating staff members. For information, agencies should contact Chymeka Olfonse at (646) 943-8847 or at colfonse@afterschoolexcellence.org.
